The Wilberforce Society was founded in 2009 as an independent student think-tank with the mission of promoting constructive and intelligent debate in Cambridge. While the format of our work has evolved, the core ideals of non-partisanship and intellectual rigour remain the guiding principles of our society.
Our work comes in three main forms:
What distinguishes TWS from other societies is its ability to offer students the opportunity to become involved with policy conception and analysis with the possibility of genuine impact. Our work has been presented at legislative bodies, such as the European Parliament and Tunisia’s New Constituent Assembly, where we presented a Brexit Report and a draft for a new Constitution respectively. The society has been recognised for its work, receiving favourable coverage from major news outlets, such as the Financial Times, and was also specially commended at the Prospect Think Tank of the Year Awards.
As our society celebrates its 10th anniversary, we would like to invite you to join us in furthering the mission of TWS. As a member, you will be able to write policy papers for us, pay discounted fees for our Conference and gain access to exclusive member-only events. If you would like to be involved in the management of society, we invite you to join us as a Fresher Rep or committee member when applications open. Please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com if you have any questions. I sincerely look forward to meeting you soon.
With best wishes,
Executive Chairman, 2018 – 19
